![]() Right now, the Lollipop 5.1 update is seeding for the Google Play Edition of this phone which brings several bug fixes and improvements with it. This phone was initially released running on KitKat and is currently getting the Lollipop update. Released in March of 2014, this is one of the company’s top Android models that combines excellent hardware and software features. ![]() Hope this helps.Welcome to the 33 rd part in our series of troubleshooting articles dedicated to the HTC One M8. If you're in Malaysia and would like me to share the guy's contact number with you, drop me a line. So confirmed it's not a firmware problem, and my best guess is that the stock battery had increased resistance (hence slower charging) and maybe it was bulging a bit (old bad cells). The new battery also seems to last way longer than the stock one, and it charges up faster too. I've run down my M8 to less than 15% battery a couple of times and it didn't shut off. I'm using my M8 with the new battery for maybe a week plus now and the random shutting off problem has gone away. ![]() He used an original HTC replacement battery, and from what I can see it looked identical to the one he took out from my M8. Has this happened to anyone? What could be wrong? Would appreciate any & all feedback :) Thanks in advance.Īn update: well, after being fed up with the way my M8 turned itself off when in a low battery start for maybe 3 times in the space of a week, I had my M8's battery replaced at a local phone repairman (not at a HTC certified service center). However, settings, app preferences & permissions were not reset at all then. When my M8 was running Lollipop, there were times when it would turn itself off as well but it was triggered by using the camera flash at low battery levels. I've done the battery calibration steps once but that was before the Marshmallow update. But some of the settings, default app preferences & also app permissions were reset. No other loss of data, as far as I can tell. I wasn't locked out of my phone but all my text messages (SMS) were lost. The 2nd time this happened was yesterday. My wallpaper was reset, although my app icons on the desktop was the same as before. In the end, I had to reset the PIN number using Android Device Manager on Chrome running on my desktop PC. I'd touch the screen, the lock screen will be displayed, I'd try inputting PIN but I guess it's wrong because the screen just goes off. Restart by pressing vol button with power button didn't work at all. The lock screen would go off after I try inputting the PIN. The lock screen is displayed but all the PIN combinations I've tried seems to be wrong. Other basic settings as well, such as auto updating apps in Google Play Store.Īlso, first time it happened, I was locked out of my phone. Some developer options were reset too, e.g animation scale etc. Some default apps were cleared as well, so the phone would ask which app I'd like to use for my Home screen (either Sense Home or Nova Launcher, which I use exclusively). I had to re-do the settings in both the settings app & also Google settings according to my preferences. What's frustrating is that after these sudden shutdowns, some of my settings were reset & the phone will be wonky. I let the phone charge for about 10 minutes or so before tinkering with it. The charging battery icon would be displayed and the charging level tallies with the last charge level that I see before the phone turns off. What I do after this happens is I would go home & charge the phone using the original M8 charger. Phone wasn't charging and the camera/flash was also off. The low battery warning usually given at 15% power wasn't displayed.ī) In both cases, I've just only turned the display on & started using the M8 for less than 15 seconds before it turns off.Ĭ) In both instances, the mobile data & GPS was on. IIRC, the first time it happened the battery was at 25% and the latest incidence the battery was at 18%. In both instances, they have these in common:Ī) Battery was low but not critically so. This has happened twice in the last two weeks. ![]() I would be looking at it and using it as per normal when it would just power down and turn off all by itself. This happens without a low battery warning and no other error messages or warning displayed on screen. The unit would turn itself off all of a sudden. I'm experiencing a weird problem with my M8.
